Setting the BIOS password in iDRAC
This article explains how to set a BIOS Setup Password on a Checkmk appliance using the Dell iDRAC interface, including accessing BIOS settings, setting the password, and rebooting the appliance to apply the changes.
Applicable to all Checkmk Appliances since 2020.
Overview
This article describes a procedure which should only be carried out after the hardware support contract has expired.
Do not perform this procedure while the hardware support contract is active.
Changing the BIOS password on an appliance with a valid support contract will immediately void all support and release Checkmk GmbH and its partners from any obligation to provide assistance.
This action is only allowed once the hardware support contract has expired.
Step-by-step guide
Add the steps involved:
Open the iDRAC web interface in your browser. Navigate to Configuration → BIOS Settings.
Within BIOS Settings, expand System Security.
Set and confirm the BIOS Setup Password.
Scroll down until you see the Apply button, then click Apply.
Under Miscellaneous Settings, select On next reboot, so the password update is applied at the next boot.
Click OK when prompted.
To access the following menu, open the iDrac console and press F2. Then select Reboot Device (action 1) from the Checkmk console menu.
During the next boot, the Dell Lifecycle Controller automatically processes and applies the requested BIOS configuration changes.
After reboot and update completion, you can now enter the BIOS using the newly configured password.
