Problem

If you receive notifications regarding critical SSD temperatures, it's important to note that the Checkmk software utilizes standard threshold values of 0-40°C when the disks do not provide specific thresholds. However, these values may not align with the manufacturer's specifications. Therefore, it is recommended to adjust the temperature thresholds in Checkmk to match the specifications provided by the manufacturer for accurate monitoring and alerting.

Solution

Before making any adjustments, it is advisable to consult the manufacturer of your SSD to determine the recommended operating temperature range. In this example, we use a Micron SSD ranging between 0-70°C.

  1. To adjust these thresholds, click on the hamburger menu

and then "Parameters for this Service."

    .

  2. You will now want to click on "Temperature."

    .

  3. Click "Add Rule"

    .

  4. Place an [X] in the Upper and Lower Temperature Level boxes to enable custom threshold values. Set the desired Warning and Critical levels for both.

    .

  5. Save the new configuration and activate the changes.

By customizing the temperature levels based on the manufacturer's specifications, you can ensure accurate monitoring and receive notifications aligned with the recommended operational temperatures for your SSD.
