How-to reset the device password of a hardware appliance
The bootloader and BIOS are standardized for all appliances, and we ensure proper configuration before delivery.

In general, there is no need to change the bootloader or BIOS settings as a customer.
We add password protection to ensure your appliances' bootloader and BIOS settings are not changed by an unauthorized individual.
The password of the iDrac is random and can be configured in the Webconf: Management interface configuration
Problem
You lost access to the Webconf and the physical console because you lost the device password.
Solution
This will reset your appliance to factory defaults, and you will lose all data! Make sure to have working backups of the appliance and the Checkmk sites before attempting this!
If you understand the warning above, you can reset your appliance by following the steps below:
Virtual Appliance
Remove the virtual data volume (this is the 100 GB disk by default)
Attach a new virtual drive with the same size as the old one
Start the appliance
The appliance will be reinitialized and back to the delivery state
Configure your appliance from scratch and restore backups if necessary
Physical Appliance
Take out both hard drives
Format both drives (e.g., to NTFS)
Attach both hard drives
Start the appliance
The appliance will be reinitialized and back to the delivery state
